This study analyzed the level of awareness and preventive practices regarding complications of home delivery in Cagayan de Oro City. It focused on three key aspects: awareness of home birth complications, awareness of preventive measures, and the relationship between awareness levels and the application of preventive measures for common complications. A descriptive method was used to provide a clear picture without manipulating variables. Data were analyzed using weighted mean, correlation methods, and verbal descriptions, with the null hypothesis tested at a 0.05 significance level. Results revealed that most respondents had moderate awareness of complications and preventive measures, as shown by high levels of moderate awareness in the overall mean. However, low awareness was noted for specific complications such as uterine contraction problems (e.g., premature placental separation) and preventive measures during the intrapartum period (e.g., using tocolytics to prevent uterine rupture). Conversely, high awareness was observed for issues like puerperal infections (e.g., caused by retained placental fragments). The study also found significant variations in the relationship between awareness levels and the application of preventive measures for complications during intrapartum and postpartum periods. Most respondents exhibited a significant relationship between awareness and preventive practices. Overall, the findings indicated a moderate level of awareness among respondents about potential problems and complications during childbirth and postpartum periods, as well as interventions to address them. These results underscore the need for enhanced education and health promotion efforts to improve maternal health outcomes related to home deliveries.
